Clarifying Shampoo vs. Final Wash
The difference between Clarifying Shampoo and Final Wash Shampoo:
Final Wash:
- Used once at the beginning and good to keep.
- Rids hair of silicone.
- It's red on www.curlsbot.com because the sulfates in it are not CGM.
- Contains SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
- Contains No Silicone.
- If you have a hair product at home that contains SLS and no silicones, then you should use Final Wash. Yes, you can use men's shampoo and even bubble bath products if the ingredients are okay.
Â
Clarifying Shampoo:
- Contains no sulfates.
- Gets rid of build-up but not silicone.
- Build-Up occasionally occurs from nature (Environmental Build-Up) and most hair products (Product Build-Up).
- Much milder than sulfate shampoos.
- Strips the hair, so it's good to use a deep conditioner afterwards.
- Appears Yellow on Curlsbot, Clarifying material mentioned.
It is recommended that everyone has a Clarifying Shampoo to use every now and then. If there is too much build-up and it is not removed, it will cause hair loss, frizz, and other related problems for most people.
It varies from person to person how often you need to use clarifying shampoo, but you learn over time when your hair needs it. The average is about 3x a month.
Using only CGM shampoo and/or cowash (cleansing conditioner) will result in build-up in the hair, from the body, nature, and hair products.
Sulfate shampoos remove this and more, thus drying out the hair and scalp.
CGM shampoos are gentle and designed to prevent this dryness.

Over time, you learn to recognize when it's time for a Clarifying wash, but your hair will become more frizzy on the top of your head, lose its shine, and even look dirty after washing when it's time for the Clarifying shampoo.
Using Clarifying Shampoo about 3 times a month is a good idea while you are learning more about your hair.
Bounce Curl Clarifying and Inahsi Sulfate Free Clarifying Shampoo are specially designed as clarifying shampoos for curly and wavy hair, but are also suitable for straight hair.
